Jeremiah 32:40
I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me.
Have you ever made vows and promises but failed to keep them? The strength of a covenantal promise is dependent on the character of the one who makes it.
A biblical covenant is a binding agreement established by God with people. Since He is eternal and unchanging, His covenants are enduring. And because He is faithful and trustworthy, He keeps all His promises – even the seemingly impossible ones.
Christ fulfilled the covenant. He wrote it with His own blood, confirmed it with His resurrection, and sealed it with His Spirit. He has given us a new heart and put His Spirit in us (Ezekiel 36:26). The Spirit instils a reverential awe and respect for Him, leading to a life that does not turn away from Him, even when going gets tough. This fear is foundational to wisdom (Proverbs 9:10) and essential for a life that honours God.
So, how should we respond to Him? A commitment to live for Him with steadfast faithfulness. Let’s repent and confess that we have not had the fear of God at all times. On countless occasions, we have turned our backs on Him. But what a joy and relief to know that the unchanging Yahweh is the author of the covenant and not us. So, we can draw our hearts back to Him again and again.
As we reflect on the past year’s journey with the Lord, we can confidently affirm that He has truly been the covenant-keeping God in our lives. We tasted His unchanging goodness and everlasting love, which never ran dry. The ONE who promised us is Faithful!
Even today, His proclamation is, “They shall be My people, and I will be their God”.
I realised the facts of the covenent. i will not forget about the covenent. god is so kind and merciful. Thanks to the lord. praise the Lord.
