Philippians 4:7
“The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
A key difference between the peace God offers and that of this world is that His peace often surpasses understanding. Jesus assured His disciples when He spoke to them of leaving the earth. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27).
This is why God’s peace “surpasses understanding”. It is hard to understand this calming peace when we are in a challenging season of life or a situation that would have, otherwise, bound us in crippling fear and anxiety.
How do we tap into this peace of God? Isaiah 26:3 AMPC says, “You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.”
Now, that is perfect and constant peace! Isn’t that something we all need? And how do we get it? By keeping our minds fixed on the Lord. How can we keep the inclination and character of our minds focused on Jesus? We commit ourselves to Him, lean on Him, and hope confidently in Him! Did you notice that the scripture says, “You will guard him and keep him”? This is what the peace of God does!
Thank You, Jesus, that You have equipped us with all that we need in our journey, this side of eternity.
