Psalm 34:13-14
“Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”
A peaceful life is what we all dream of. In Psalm 34:12, David asks an interesting question: Who wants to live a good life? He answers by telling us to watch our words, steer clear of evil, and seek out peace.
Instead of just wishing for peace, let’s work together to create it in our relationships, homes, and communities. If we want to find peace, we need to be peacemakers first (Matthew 5:9). Being a peacemaker means more than just avoiding arguments; it’s about actively spreading peace with how we speak, act, and think.
We all desire to lead a good life that honors God, which means using our words with care. Let’s choose to say things that are kind, truthful, and uplifting, and avoid gossip, lies, and hurtful comments. Being honest and sincere in what we say matters. An uncontrolled tongue can leave a harmful mark on someone’s life. So let’s choose to speak life, encouragement, and comfort.
Today’s verse also reminds us to step away from harmful actions and embrace what is good, helpful, and loving. When something feels wrong, choose to distance yourself from it. Take time to read and reflect on God’s Word so that your choices are made with wisdom and kindness. And remember, when you surround yourself with people who appreciate goodness, it becomes so much easier for you to do good, too!
Pursuing peace requires intentional effort and commitment. Honoring God through our speech and actions not only reflects our values but also inspires those around us to do the same. We don’t have to do it with our strength; if we desire, He will enable us. So let’s strive to be peacemakers.
