Run to God in Times of Trouble

Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

In ancient times, when wars were frequent and cities were under constant threat, strong towers played a vital role. They were built high and firm. When danger approached, people would run into these towers, trusting their strength to protect them and preserve their lives.

When troubles arise in our lives today, where do we run? Do we turn first to family and friends for comfort? Do we look for human solutions to ease our sorrow, anxiety, or fear? While God often uses people to encourage us, Scripture reminds us that our safest refuge is found in Him alone.

The Bible tells us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Unlike human love, which can fail or fade, God’s love is constant and faithful. On this Valentine’s Day, as the world celebrates love, we are reminded that the greatest love we can rely on is the love of God, a love that protects, comforts, and never abandons us. “He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4).

Proverbs 18:10 also emphasizes that the righteous run to the Lord. God is holy, and He calls His people to walk in righteousness. When we live in obedience, our conscience remains clear, and we can approach Him with confidence and boldness (Hebrews 4:16). Unrighteousness brings guilt and shame, causing us to hide from God, just as Adam and Eve did in the garden.

Let us strive to live righteous lives, resting in God’s grace. In every season of trouble and in every search for love, may we run to the Lord first, trusting Him as our strong tower and unfailing refuge.
