John 16:33
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
During exam season, teachers often tell us, “These topics are important for the exam.” We pay close attention and remember their advice as we study, trusting that they know what is best for us. Similarly, Jesus told His disciples about the challenges they would face after His ascension. He promised to send an Advocate and encouraged them to remain strong in their faith. Though His words were sobering, His purpose was to give them hope and peace, instead of fear.
John 16:33 reminds us that trials and tribulations are a part of life. So, what’s our solution? Jesus says that in Him we have peace, for He is the Prince of Peace. In times of trouble, He encourages us to take heart and be of good cheer, because He has already won the victory over sin and death. So, we do not fight for victory; we fight from the victory already won in Christ. Through Him, we are more than conquerors.
Romans 8:15 reminds us that the Spirit we have received does not make us slaves to fear but brings about our adoption as sons and daughters of God through Christ. This Lent, let us reaffirm our relationship with our Father, knowing that He is always with us, and we can boldly approach Him in times of trouble and tribulation.
No matter our situation, let’s remember that the Prince of Peace is ready to fill us with His peace as we abide in Him. Because He is Emmanuel, God with us, we can trust that He will help us overcome, just as He has done before.
