The Temple of God

2 Corinthians 6:16 – “…for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

The tabernacle of the Old Testament was revered as God’s holy dwelling place. The priests had strict instructions on who could enter and how they needed to prepare themselves to be in the presence of God. Solomon’s temple was grand and opulent, revered by the Jews because it depicted the place where God would meet with man.

Fast forward to the New Testament where Jesus’ death, resurrected and ascension paved the way for the Holy Spirit to dwell in the hearts of all those who believed in Him. Now, it’s we who are God’s holy temple – a place where God dwells, moves and is exalted as Lord and King.

You, dear friend, are a temple of God – beautiful and wonderful in His sight. When you accept Jesus as the Lord of your life, His Holy Spirit comes down to dwell in you. No longer do you have to depend on priests to present your requests to God. You have direct access to the Most High God. It’s both a privilege and a responsibility. May we always be mindful of Whom we host in our bodies, and remain conscious of our thoughts, words and actions.
