The Lord has provided

Genesis 22:14 – “So Abraham called the name of that place, ‘The Lord will provide’; as it is said to this day, ‘On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.’”

One of the names of God that we often cling to is “Jehovah Jireh” which means “the Lord will provide”. Whatever it is we lack, we know God is our ultimate provider and He will supply our needs. Be it wisdom to tackle a complicated situation, finances for an unexpected expense, or healing for a loved one, we have the assurance that God will meet our needs because He is our Jehovah Jireh.

However, it wasn’t so for Abraham. When God asked him to sacrifice Isaac, he could not have known what form his provision would come in. But God honored Abraham’s complete trust and obedience; He provided a ram for the sacrifice in the place of Isaac. That’s why Abraham named the place, as a symbolic representation of God’s provision.

In the New Testament, we see Jesus Himself becoming the sacrificial lamb and dying in our place. Once again God provided, but this provision was different. Through Jesus, God provided us with everything we need to lead a life that honors His name. God has already provided us with forgiveness, healing, grace, mercy and victory through His Son. Today, if you lack something, don’t forget to call upon Jesus. Whatever you need is found in Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for sending Your Son as the ultimate sacrifice for my sins. Thank You for all the times You’ve provided for my needs. I trust that You are my provider, and that through Jesus, You’ve already given me everything I need to live as Your child. Help me always remain faithful to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
