In Famine and War

Job 5:20-22 – “In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword. Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh. At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh.”

Job is one person in the Bible who underwent brutal suffering and experienced major loss. Yet, his faith and relationship with God in the midst of his trials give us something to strive for in our own spiritual journeys. Job stood the test of his faith and came out victorious. Job’s story should make us question our own faith. If faced with similar struggles, will we continue to trust God?

The verses above, although uttered by one of Job’s friends, do have a great measure of truth. Jesus redeemed us from death and gave us the gift of eternal life. The difficulties we face on a daily basis are nothing compared to the everlasting joy that awaits us.

Yes, we may face famines and wars in various areas of our lives. But we are not without hope. Destruction cannot overtake us because God is on our side. He is fighting for us and we cannot be shaken. When we have the quiet assurance that God is with us, we are equipped to face any issue head on. Let’s hide God’s word in our hearts and allow His power to lead us to victory.
