Psalm 23:1-3 – “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

The dictionary defines the word “restore” as “re-establish, repair, reinstate, renovate”. When we look at this definition in the context of Psalm 23, we begin to truly understand what David meant when he said the Lord restores his soul. Take a good look at your own life… Chances are, there is some area where you might need a little restoration.

Perhaps your marriage is in trouble, your career is stagnant, you can’t seem to do well in life no matter how hard you try, your kids’ behavior is alarming, your finances seem to be dwindling… Do you need a reboot? You only need to turn to Your shepherd. When you truly take God at His Word and consider Him your shepherd, you trust that He is able to take care of you and all that is yours.

Ask God to restore the areas of your life that have fallen into disarray. But before you do that, ask God to restore your soul. Spend time with Him and feed on His Word. Get watered with the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life. Allow God to quench the thirst of your needy soul and restore it back to its former glory. Get back to your first love, Jesus, and allow His grace to lead you through the dark valleys of your life. The restoration of your soul is just the beginning of all the renovation work God is going to do in your life. Just stay close to your Shepherd and follow His leading!
