2 Peter 1:10 – “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall…”

Peter was one of the most vocal disciples of Jesus, especially after He received the power of the Holy Spirit. He was bold in proclaiming the Gospel, and endured intense persecution during the course of His ministry. His letters to the early church are therefore both encouraging and practical.

In today’s verse, Peter encourages His fellow brothers in ministry to make their calling and election sure. In essence, he’s asking them to confirm their calling, be sure of it and remain steadfast in it. Much like the early church, each of us has a personal call from God – to know Him and to make Him known. There’s no doubt about our calling, but how we execute it is up to us.

God has given you unique interests, talents and abilities so you can work out your calling with confidence. You have a circle of influence where you alone can shine the light of God’s love. When you use your gifts to share about Jesus, you are strengthening the call of God in your life. Ask the Holy Spirit will give you wisdom, grace and strength to live out your calling for God’s glory.
