A prayer of protection

John 17:11:  And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee.  Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

Jesus was almost at the point of finishing or accomplishing His mission on earth.  He prayed to His Father to keep His disciples safe in this world and also for them to stay together and be one just as how He and His Father were one.

This character of Jesus shows that He really cared for those whom He had selected or handpicked from so many people.  Though he knew that Judas would betray Him, He never kept him away from the group of His disciples.  He loved them all more than His life.  He prayed that God, the Father, would keep them safe from all evil things that could happen to them after He was gone.  His prayer was that God would give them the strength to bear all kinds of evil things in this world.  He wanted them to be strong in trying times or the times of persecution.  God cares for us too in the same manner.  Hebrews say that Jesus is the mediator between us and God.  He is our chief high priest. He prays on our behalf and pleads for us.

God loves us so much that it was His work for us on salvation that brought us into perfect unity with God.  He cares for us and shows that He loves us by accepting us as we are.  Let us finish our course here on earth that we are entrusted with and live in perfect harmony with those who have been put in our life.
